Default New Engine

Since the PI head swap requires me to run 91 ocatane I'm really trying to stay away from that. Anybody know a good site where I can buy just buy a whole new engine out of a 99+ GT? Would it be more beneficial to just buy the PI head swap and pay for the 91 octane gas or in the long run would be worth it to just buy the whole new engine?

www.karkraft.com

it would be better to stick with what you got and go for the swap. spending $1500+ so you don't have to spend and extra $2 a week is dumb.

edit: bad link

Although if you ask me if you could find a 99+ 4.6 for agood price thatd be an awsome swap.

Why would a PI swap require you to rin 91 octane? You wont mess with the timing and the compression isnt that far off.

You would need to run at LEAST 89 and really premium is the best bet... but your gonna get another 10 hp or so from the added compression and unless you plan on using forced induction later you should do the headswap - every hp counts!

Yes it's definitely the best upgrade for a pre-PI Mustang. If you do want to FI later on, just yank the engine and replace the pistons with lower compression pistons and get some steel rods and new rings and a cobra crank while you're at it so you have a solid bottom end. If you do the swap, make sure you get an intake with the aluminum crossover.

Heh. That makes absolutely no sense at all. There are 489349498 million 99+ GT owners who have to run on 89 or 93 bone stock because of the quality of gas they get & weather....

It's so senseless. If you want economy, get rid of your car and pick up a turbo 4 banger. You'll still fill up with 93 but get 20+mpg

They obviously dont HAVE to fill up with 89 or 93 if there car is bone stock. The owners manual recomends 87, if they had to fill up with 89 or 93 they could sue the **** out of Ford.

Um, my friends 04 GT sounds like a can of BB's when he runs 87. Ford can't guarentee the quality of gas in your area.

I don't know why I bother arguing with you. [&:]

If the owners manual says that the vehicle can operate on 87 octane gasoline then it has to be able to operate on 87 octane gasoline. Maybe your friends car doesnt run perfect on 87 ocatane but it can run. You said you HAVE to run higher than 87 on bone stock 99+'s and if that was true then Ford will be false advertising and could get sued. I dont know why I bother arguing with you cause you can only see your side.
