Default 4.6L duribility

I was just wondering what type of mileage a typical mustang 4.6L gets until it starts to develop major problems? 150k miles-200k miles?? I know it is all about how you treat your engine but what is the average high mileage 4.6L you guys see? Have you ever seen a 200k+ engine? I have 80k right now and will be driving it for at least another 4years, just wanna know if I should worry about anything. Have you guys ever had to replace anything? water pump-starter-head-whole engine-etc?

77,000 miles = rod bearings on 2 cylinders went bye-bye.

Now, granted I bought her used and cannot vouch for the maintenance practices of the previous owner.

Thats not to good. Did you take it to the track often? I spun a bearing on my previous car, talk about a headache+ a huge hole in the wallet.

well, since it's PI you dont have to worry about blowing spark plugs out of your motor from driving it too hard, ummmm just make sure you take proper care, radiator flushes, oil changes, transmission fluid changes, etc as needed.

95,000 Heads broke. A week later my clutch went. two weeks later the rear end bearings shot. The last month has been expensive. I had took good care of the car. But also bought it used.

There are loads of 4.6s out there with well over 100K and going strong. Proper maintenance and resisting the urge to flog it every time you get in it will go a long way. I've had several Fords go over 100K without touching the internals.

That's good to know. I got an 02 with 38K and I got to make it last at least 5 more years. Unless I hit lotto.

I had 125k on a 97 cobra. I have 150k on a supercharged 00 gt. My step dad has 250k on a non PI 4.6 truck. My uncle has 500k on a 96 crown vic 4.6.

Depends on how its driven. Around 100k you have normal wear parts.. clutch should have been replaced before then, but if not, it'll need it... but you shouldnt be expecting major mechanical failure if it hasnt been beat to hell and back.
