Default mod path

i just got my 97 GT 5 speed, in a few weeks i will be selling my other car and depending on how much i get outta it, i should have 1200-1600 dollars left over after i pay off my loan, i was looking at just not paying off my loan and strapping on a blower, but with the NPI heads it wont make much a differance, so for lets say 1k what should i invest in, Are there any free mods that i can do? like adjust the timing or something? i was planning on a short throw shifter(would a shortthrow make it easier or harder to miss a shift, or find the gears?) then something like a BBK CAI, a PI intake(same one on summit for 200$) then maybe a cam? i wouldnt want to put in a stock PI cam, was looking for something more radical, but not too much, how radical can i get on stock springs? well those are some mods i was thinking about, what should be the gains from that and what do you guys reccomend me doing on my budget? i dont belive ill have enough for a PI head change but that depends on how much they are and plus id probley have to have them installed since i dont have any kind of engine building/tearing down experiance, well thats it for now thanks.

Free mods? Well you can cut out your mufflers and just have cats. You can take off your air silencer. BUt get rid of every bit of extra weight you have. Throw out the spare tire and back seat and sound dampining and platic peices and all that good stuff. But thats if you want to go fast for like little or no money at all. This website should help: http://mustangworld.com/ourpics/fcar/ctips.htm

who ever told you that because of the non pi heads the charger won't make much of a difference?? thats very untrue...strap on a charger and swap the intake and add some blower cams...thing will run like a champ...if youre looking for even more intercool it and up the boost and port your non pi heads...that will set you way over stock block limit

buddy of mine has the blower on a completely stock non pi heads with a pi intake and hp cams and pushes 385rwhp...hasn't even intercooled it and upped the boost yet...don't let non pi heads hold you back...swapping the intake and cams is what makes up for most of the hp lost from a PI motor...

sweet, this one is 6-8 psi probley the same one, i dont think they go any higher unless he has the novi 2000, but hell i thought from what ppl where saying that id only pick up 60RWHP and for 4k i dont think so but if i can make 100+RWHP than thats cool, how much could i make with even the NPI intake and cams, b/c 4k is about all ill have to spend, do you have to remove the blower once its on in order to change the intake?

i know for a fact that the intake and cams help tremendously...blower cams give close to 40rwhp and thats a f'n lot!! the intake probably good for 15rwhp...and no you can install the blower now and do everything else later without retracing your steps...now if you were getting a roots blower that would be a different story...oh and he has a novi1000...you can add a boost pipe or up the pulley to get an extra lb or too, hence why hes closer to 10 than 6-8

I am also in the process of going this route:

V2 sq trim
PI intake
boost pipe
Paxton a/a intercooler
Crower blower cams
mini race bypass valve

with all of this and full bolt ons im hoping to make close to 385-400rwhp if that helps you at all...this is through untouched non pi heads, but swapping the intake and also adding some stage II blower cams

so i should be good for 300RWHP until i get those cams and all put on, another thing is though if i put too much power ill need a stiffer clutch too im sure, i have the stock clutch currently, so ill wait to put in intake, cams and clutch then up boost on blower than maybe an intercooler later on down the road then it'll really scream.

sounds like a great plan my friend...make sure you dont really break 10lbs of boost before i/c'ing it though...don't want to over do it
