I have a friend with a 1999 v6 auto trans that just called me. They say that while driving along for no apparant reason it will try to downshift....that's all the info I have at the moment. Do you know of any known issues like this? Let me know what additional info you might need and I'll try to get that the next time we talk.

my 96 windstar did that. I was driving south on I-75 coming home from a weekend up north, and the darn thing downshifted a gear, then went back into overdrive on a flat road with the cruise on. As i thought "that was strange" it downshifted all the way down to first gear on the highway...i almost lost control and i thought the engine was gonna blow cause it was buried into the red line for quite some time as the van slowed down. i ended up driving the "back roads" home from mid michigan to southeast michigan in first gear! Never pushed it much faster then 25-30 mph. I think it ended up being some sensor on the trans that died, i was told.
