Default Speedo not working

My speedometer randomly stops working and jumps up and down around my speed. This is only about half the time I am driving. I am also having a problem with stalliing which I think is either my IAC or my alternator regulator from my research I have done.

Could my alternator problem be causing my speedo to go wacky? I have replaced the speedo sensor with the Ford part and nothing was fixed. If it is not my alternator, and the stalling is actually my IAC, what could be causing the speedo to go wacky?

That will by my last resort, I don't want to have a cluster that shows the wrong miles on the odometer.
