i guess im [sm=owned.gif]
ORIGINAL: 1BadSonicBlue02GT

i have had underdrive pulleys on my car for sometime now at least 3,000 miles and my car has like 54k. I havent had one problem w/ my car. not a one. ignore that guy. you will have to pull your fan and when takin the crank pulleys off you'll need a crank puller. and only tighten it with an impact wrench otherwise it'll come loose but im sure that u already know that
I never said i had steeda pulleys, the were mac, thats probably why the discharging happended. i was just giving him some ideas as to what can happen. Buy yea it was a 4.9 theres a big diference compared to the 4.6.

Well I heard them piggy back styles or whatever always cause problems thats why I got steeda, I heard nothing but good news from them, only bad news i hear from them is from rich people who just go buy all the big mods and say what is 7hp going to do. but to me 170 bucks for 7hp, plus doing it myself is well worth it..... I dunno its just how I am.

give it a shot and let us know how it works out, you shouldnt need any special tools, weekend engineer should be able to do it in a few hours.

There are seriously no problems with UDP's. I dont think they are worth it for 200 bucks, for like 3 rwhp, but the previous owner put them on mine so I dont care. ......but seriously, I doubt I have a discharging battery at idle. Or even when the car is off, I have a regular battery, (not an Optima or anything) and I left my overhead lights on over night and the car still started in the morning with UDP's. I've never had any electrical problems ever. I'm sure there are some rare cases that people blame on UDP's, but I dont believe it. Just not worth the money to spend IMO.

As far as horsepower gains, I can't confirm any. I'm a bit sceptical of real horsepower gains when I just got L/T's, ported heads, flat pistons, bigger cams, bigger t/b, plenum and few other goodies and I only saw +28 RWHP. I got them and the only thing I notice is the light do dim a bit at idle, the power steering is less responsive at idle, and the air conditioning does not work very well below 2000 RPM. The cooling system still seems to work fine and I have had no overheating problems. Installation tips: use an impact gun, keep the alternator pulley stock and when you're pounding that crank pulley back on to catch some threads, don't stick the claw of the hammer in your radiator.

You will need a harmonic balancer puller. you can rent them from the auto store for around15 bucks, becareful about your crank bolt that thing stripps very very easy, im pretty sure Steeda sends you a longer bolt with the kit to help seat the crank pully, your also going to need a impact gun, im sure somone has said that in the thread. Other than that its pretty easy

The alternator pulley that they provide you with is only a fraction of an inch bigger and it is unnecessary to swap it out. The alternator does not cause a significant amount of drag and you will benefit with the alternator spinning faster at idle and your lights won't dim as much.

Mind you I'm not recommending using an impact gun on the crank bolt. Just emphasizing that there is enough room inside the Steeda crank pulley to fit a craftsman Impact socket.

None of that socket crap is necessary. I have Steeda UDP's on my 04 GT and had ZERO problems on install and I have had ZERO issues since install. The older 5.0 UDP's had a bad rep for causing those kind of problems on the foxes but I haven't heard of anybody (who installed them right) having problems with Steeda UDP's on the 4.6. There's plenty of room to get an Impact socket on the crank bolt. Just take your time. There is a dust cover on the engine block down underneath by the flywheel (drivers side)that can be removed. Once you do this you can get a big flat blade screwdriver in there to lock the engine via the flywheel/flexplate for crank bolt removal. Swap out ALL pulleys. This makes sure you can use your old belt without slippage.

yea one tip, send them back, for the extra what 5 horsepower you get, you get a discharging battery at idle, wtf, its not worth it, just get another mod and go about you biz, But since you already have it then put them on. In my 5.0 i had to grind down a socket for it to fit in with the new smaller crank pulley. because the pully was smaller in diameter and the holes for the bolts were close to the ring of the pulley. But on my 5.0 i still today have a discharging battery at idle. It just doesnt charge and the battery gauge just plumits. but i dont drive it nemore since i got my cobra. lol, and you better believe im not touching the pulleys on my cobra.

uhh can u read, i did give u a tip

What he said. Change them all. If your belt has 40K or more on it, I'd replace it too.
