UPDATE ON MY TRANS PROBLEM
get this...ford calls me back and said that my STS voided my warranty and that my trans is completely shot to hell...so I"m gonna have to end up paying for a new trans....can they do this? b/c I asked them and said how can a shifter ruin my whole transmission?...someone please give me some answers this is killing me!! b/c I"m gonna end up w/ a 2500 bill from ford for the new trans
Well it is an after market part directly attached to the problem component (ie the tranny). Now even though Ford has a TSB out for the tranny issue, if there is an aftermarket component that they could "link" the cause to they will.
I know people have gone and had the service performed with the STS still installed and had no problems. But I have heard the other way and they had nothing but problems.
I didn't put a STS in, I was waiting to have the TSB done first before I did. It's a little late but it is usually a good Idea if possible to remove any after market components that could contribute to the problem if possible.
Suck part is you can't pull it out now and go some where else because of the History file on your car. The only thing I can suggest is find out what dealership other members of this board and others had the TSB done with the STS installed and have your dealership contact that dealership, they might decide to to the TSB under warrenty. (Offical tremec thread over at stangnet, I know has a lot.)

FORD HAS TO PROOVE THE SHORT THROW SHIFTER WAS THE DIRECT CAUSE OF THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE
Simply having an aftermarket part legally cannot cause the warranty to be voided on ANY part of the car - unless that part directly contributed to the demise of the failed part. Its called the Moss-Magnesium act. Putting a cam in a car and the engine blowing because it was over-revved is one thing, but installing a part that is better and safer than the original part is another. Unfortunately you may need a lawyer, or a second opinion from another mechanic and contact Ford headquarters and tell them of your intent to sue. I wouldn't play around... tell em you quit school cause of recess.

That sucks man.
I'm sorry to hear it. The bad thing is that if you decide to fight, they probably figure that you will not pursue it to the end. Stand up for your rights!
The only way I can see them trying to blame the shifter would be to try and attribute it to one of the shifter stops being set wrong.

Go to this website and scroll down until you see the caption New Vehicle Warranties and Your Rights. It explains the Magnuson-Moss Act in detail.
Hope everything works out.

whats TSB stand for?...and in what way could the shifter ruin the trans..b/c I kno ppl that have the exact same shifter as I do on there stangs w/ over 50k miles on them and there doin fine...so maybe my shop didnt install it right?...and ford is gonna put the stock shifter back on so that my new trans will b under warranty for 6 years now (wasnt planning on keepin the car that long anway) but the head mechanic told me that if I put another shifter on it the warranty will b voided again...and one thing that really pissed me off was that the head mechanic was like on the phone " I kno what ur tryin to do w/ the car (meaning racing it) and just want to tell u that u cant throw on a STS on the stock trans cuz it'll screw it up and that u need a racing trans" I was like wtf I treat my trans alot better then most ppl hell I"ve never even once power shifted my car and I only bring her up 2 redline when I"m racing which is like twice in a month.....AHHHHHHHH I"m so pissed right now!
TSB stands for Technical Service Bulliton.
What I was talking about with the shifter stops are the bolts that you adjust to keep you from going to far when you slam it into gear.
I have heard of people being accused that the stops were set wrong and not allowing the car to be completely in gear thus causing some damage.

Oh,
Looking at your list of mods, you will probably get the same treatment if you ever have any engine problems.
When these guys see an aftermarket chip, they become can real di@ks.

yea tell me about it...when I brang my car in 2 ford when the sevice engine light came on last week they wouldnt even touch the car when the saw the chip in there and charged me 100 bucks...and yea so what ur sayin is that maybe my shifter wasnt installed correctly and thats maybe the reason y my trans is farked up right now?...so can I sue the shop? lol
They are going to find every way possible to weasel out from fixing it under warranty. I'd print out the Magnuson-Moss law and bring a copy with you and ask them to prove to you how the short shifter cause'd your transmission failure.
