Diagnostic while moving

I did that Odometer trick, but whenever I turn the car on after I set it up, it dissapears. Am I suppose to start my car while holding the thing in? I want to check my digital speedo.

Are you turning the key back at all when you go to start it after getting the diagnostics up?
