Default POWER-SHIFTING???

Dumb question but what is the correct way to do this??

Do you hold full throttle while shifting??

And do you keep your same shift points??

Hmmm.....are you rich, or have a hypo tremec tranny? If not don't do it. If you do choose to do this please carry a bucket with you, that way you can pick up all the pieces of your tranny when it fragments.

Yes.

Yes.

It's not good for your driveline either. Quick way to break something like a synchro or shift fork or something.

Powershifting has the addage "Don't lift to Shift". Personally, I would not suggest power shifting for everyday street use, especially 1-2 shift, or youll end up in a ditch somewhere when your wheels break loose. Basically, your objective is to shift so quickly that your car only revs up about 500 RPM before its in the next gear, this is why aftermarket shifters help so much by making your throw shorter. If you shift at redline, you need to pull back about 200-500RPM before redline to allow for the car to jump up before you get it into the next gear. If you do it correctly, the car will not bog, and you can keep your foot to the floor and the rpm's in the power band the entire time.

However, the stress it puts on your transmission is huge, and the T45 and even the 3650 are not good transmissions to powershift with, they are notorious for breaking due to the stress. My best suggestion if you want to practice power shifting is to baby it a bit, powershift at half throttle and at 3500 RPM instead of right before redline, so when you miss a shift (and you will when learning, I know I have and damn its scary) you will have time to get off the throttle before hitting the rev limiter.

i would suggest practicing on a honda, it's much easier to do on fwd/ soft as butter clutch, than it is with a mustang

Give it a try on the 3rd-4th shift, but if you grind 2nd on a normal shift, do NOT do 1-2. youll destroy your synchros.

i have had 4 mustang and i now have a 99 cobra, i have powershifted with and without aftermarket shifter, and i have had no problems with my tranny, when i am in a race i dont even let out of the gas until after the race, 1-2. 2-3, 3-4. My fathers 99 gt has 180000 miles on it and has the same transmission, he does it everytime at the track. And it helps, you will get about 2-3 tenths out of it.

Hmmm..... I love how people say you will gain tenth's out of powershifting. No, you will lower your et's by knowing how to drive. You will break your tranny by powershifting. I know, I had a t45 in for about 2 track dates, then it was done with... a nice tremec now sits in its place. You may be able to get away with it if you are producing under 300 ft/lbs at the rear wheels, but in a REAL car, it will eat your lunch and your wallet. Buy a short shift, learn to use your clutch and keep it in one piece.
