Default Shifter stops in TR-3650

Well, I have an 03 Mach 1 with a TR-3650 tranny and I just installed a Steeda Tri-Ax a few months ago
I set the stops as the instructions indicated, but Ive been reading more and more about how the TR-3650 has built in stops and the ones on the shifter can actually hurt the tranny...
Should I go remove/furthen/loosen the stops on the shifter or will I be fine leaving them?

I have my shifter stops in, I pushed my shifter into gear and with some force tried to shove it further forward, I forget what size feeler gauge I used to determine how much of a gap there was before setting the stops. I have them there because I could overshift my 02 GT, so I don't believe the whole story about the stops inside the transmission being enough.

As long as you can push your shifter into gear & with force still not touch the stops, you won't hurt anything by leaving them in there.

most people say to take them out, some say to leave em in... I say read the instructions for the shifter, if your instructions are taylored to your spec. tranny like some other short throws, it says not to set em on a 3650...so i dunno if that helps er not[&:]

I set them with my TR-3650. I'd rather KNOW the shifter stop is going to stop it,than guessing that the transmission has its own stops.

I removed the stops when installing my MGW, it reccommended that you not use them if you had the 3650 so i didnt.

I specifically put this question to MGW and received this (very quick) reply from George..."I would NOT put them in.I have talked with Tremec in great detail about this and am convinced that they are correct. the tranny has beefy internal stops and does not require the external stops. We mainly put them in for shipping purposes only. We lock the center shaft down so that the shifter will not clang around in shipping. you must remove them prior to installation of the shifter."So, I did not install them, but rather plugged the holes with a couple of button head 3/8-16 x 1/4" cap screws. Installing the stops, properly adjusting them, and making sure they remain properly adjusted would not likely cause any problems--however they are not needed...
