Does anyone know the differences between the 96-98 catbacks vs. the 99-04 catbacks? Are the hangers different or do they sit wider or up higher/down lower coming out the back? I do know they have that notch out in the rear bumper, but haven't a clue what the diff is? I have a 97 and want an SSS exhaust, but they only make them for 99-04's. Any info would be great!

Actually I believe the exhaust was changed in 98, not 99, and the difference was that 97 and earlier the hanger on the back was pushed to the side, parallel to the back bumper, into the rubber mount, and 98+ they push back towards the back of the car in the mount.

 

Exactly! Plus they added an extra hanger on the muffler (which on 96-98's you don't have to use). The tailpipes will sit closer to your bumper if you get the 99-04 kit than it would with a 96-98 due to the bumper. But to answer your question....a 99-04 Catback will fit a 96-04 with no problem.
