Gauges

Im looking at getting these Gauges but i have a few questions 1st. Do i just take my stock cluster out and just plug this one in and screw it back down..?? And also the redline is almost at 7000rpms will that matter since i have an auto..?? And will my miles still be the same..???http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2004-...spagenameZWDVW

RE: Gauges

I think your miles are saved to the pcm on your car, but I may be wrong.

RE: Gauges

pretty sure if you plug that cluster in to your car it will read 3107 miles or whatever that one says...it is saved on to the cluster...you can just buy the bullitt/mach style overlays here:

ebay store

i know the ones i posted are for a V6 but they are custom made so you can have them made for a GT too...and you can get them white face...i know it won't have the silver trim like that mach cluster but hey...you know it will work unlike the other one

RE: Gauges

my overlays that i just put on have a "redline" of 7k even tho the gt's have a revlimiter at 6k if im not mistaken. when i get on it hard i shift at around 5600rpms anyway so it doesnt matter to me.

Gotta love all the people making guesses

Take stock cluster out, unplug it... Put this one in place, plug it in, screw it down, done.

Redline will not matter. I have a 99 cobra cluster in my car, the redline is 6800 instead of 5800... Since my car is a 5-speed I just need to keep it in mind... not that it's an issue because the car runs out of power that high anyway. The rev limiter is still 6250.

Your mileage is saved to your cluster. After you put the Mach 1 cluster in, it will read whatever mileage was on the cluster, in this case, 3107.5 miles. Record your old mileage for insurance/warranty sake before you swap it.

Before installing it... take it with you to a Ford dealership that is open, and bringall the keys for your car (if you have two or three) and$80 with you (or whatever one hour's labor is). Park outside the service depot, swap it, go inside and tell them you need your keys reprorgammed. $80 and 5 minutes later, you'll be set to go. After swapping it, your car will read new PATS info and your keys will no longer work... which is why you need to get them reprogrammed.

Finally, since your car is an 01... where is your defroster button? Is it in the center console by the shifter, or near your headlight knob? If it's near your headlight knob, you'll have issues with your rear defroster. If it's in the center console, you won't need to worry.

RE: Gauges

i knew the mileage was saved on your cluster as i have been looking into getting an engine swap sometime in the near future...which is why i directed him to that other ebay seller that sells the overlays to save him the $80 bucks to have everything reprogrammed by Ford!

RE: Gauges

there is no reason to record mileage, the miles are saved in the computer and board part in the back - that is just a new caseing, easy transfer- just be gentle

Yeah, that works too... but why not hit a junkyard for a cluster then if you only need the case? A water-damaged one would be just fine because you're not using the electronics if you're keeping the same board.

Edit: Speedo would not be off, it is digital. My Cobra cluster says 160 mph, still reads perfectly accurate. A terminator cluster will work in the car, also... but the boost gauge will be useless.

that seems like a lil too much trouble for me to be. Would the speedo and stuff be off a lil? i know you cant put a terminator cluster in

RE: Gauges

why not just buy the overlays that look exactly the same and cost less????

lol

Ok... I can tell ya ANYTHING you need to know bout gauges like that! 1st Id like to say the overlays on eBayI dont like... I looked closely and they look "bubbled" a bit... plus those are not exactley like the Mach1's! I LOVE the look of the Mach1's... and I was going to go with them, but decided on a 99/01 Cobra cluster instead.

So to answer your questions... as for the redline, no that will not matter, as long as your current cluster setup has the tach. on it (all mustangs do no?) The redline mark is just that.. a mark, it does not influence the actions of the motor/tranny at all. As for the mileage, it will show whatever mileage is on that cluster! Mileage is stored in the CLUSTER! not the cars computer! Yes it will bolt right up! HOWEVER! Your car wil not start after you install this cluster! The PATS information for the chip in your key (anti theft device), is stored in the cluster! This new cluster will have different programming and think you have the wrong keys! This needs to be fixed by the dealership... there are possibly3 ways to fix this.. I know one will work, i am unsure of the others, one is to drive the car to the dealership with the originall cluster, swap clusters in the parking lot, and then go tell them you need your keys re-programmed! This will work. The other 2 ways im not positive about... I beleive if you take both clusters into the dealership they can transfer the info from your cluster into the new one! (mileage, PATS info, etc.), or you can do what I did, switch out the green switch boards, this will retain your current mileage and PATS info, but your speedo might be offf! If you are going from a 150MPH cluster to another 150MPH cluster you SHOULD be fine! I went from a 150mph cluster to a 160mph cluster and now my speed is 10MPH off! Any other questions let me know!

P.S.... expect that cluster to go up to or over $150.00-$200.00! Those clusters seem to be quite popular on eBay!

Your speedometer is off because you transferred the board, no?

the overlays look funny to me... if you look closely at the pic in the eBay link they look "bubbled"

RE: Gauges

ok they don't look EXACLTY like the Mach/Bullitt ones but pretty close..i think they only look bubbled a little because they pushed the "stops" in too far...the white ones look fine...it is only on the black ones that look wierd

how do you "fix that" if you transferred the boards? isn't there any way to change the mileage on a cluster (some secret that only Ford knows about) without swapping boards or reprogramming keys?

You can't really fix it if you've transferred the board. As far as the board is concerned, it is sitting behind a cluster that says 150 MPH. I'm sure Ford has the ability to reflash the board with the software on the cobra boards... but I doubt they'd take the time to do that.

There is no way to adjust the mileage, says Ford. Of course, if there's a will, there's a way... but the honest truth of it is, I'm sure Ford has done their best to protect the chip that has the (very likely) encoded mileage information on it... One option would be finding and swapping that chip, another option would be finding out what all of the ports on the back of the board do and getting into some reverse engineering to see if you can crack the software on the board... of course, this is WAY WAY over the heads of many.

RE: Gauges

As far as I know only Ford can change the actuall info in the cluster, Im going to fix it by re-switching the cicuit boards and taking it to ford to have the key's re-programmed.

lol....yup...they should have a smiley with a hand waving over the head...haha

i think i am going to either order my overlays from speedhut.com or whitegauges.net
