header/h-pipe question
ok, i've looked for this answer for about an hour now, but i can't find it in any current threads. i'm looking to slightly modify my exhaust, but not go too extreme. i'm thinking of either purchasing a set of 1 5/8" shorty headers, or gutting the front cats on my stock h-pipe. which of these mods will produce more throttle response? i intend to get a k&n, accufab plenum, aluminum pullies, and one of the mods above. this should add about 20hp to the wheels, but if gutting the front cats on my h-pipe is just as effective as headers, i might as well save the $500! i quess i would only have to add mil's and i'd be set.
by the way, it's a 2000 gt.

Ah, you have much to learn:
Here's my two plans of attack:
A) Non-Emissions State
- BBK Longtube headers
-Bassani/Magnaflow/UPR off-road X pipe
-Magnaflow catback
-Densecharger
-Gears
-Pullies
-Throttle body/Plenum
-Sub-frames
-Suspension
-Any other mods
-Tune
B) Emissions state
- FRPP shorty ceramic headers
-Bassani/SLP catted X-pipe
-Magnaflowcatback
-Densecharger
-Gears
-Pullies
-Throttle body/Plenum
-Sub-frames
-Suspension
-Any other mods
-Tune

yeah, i know that i can do all of that stuff, but i really don't want the car to be loud. i've played the modification game before, and i'm just looking to free up a couple dozen hp at minimal cost without making the car any louder than stock, and without having to run premium fuel. i think the methods i listed above are the best way to do it. i just want to know what will be more beneficial, shorty headers, or gutting the first two cats on the stock h-pipe??

Doing the shorty headers alone is not worth the hassle. I don't think gutting the cats on your pipe is going to give you the results you are looking for. If you don't want the car to be louder then don't do exhaust mods. Do gears or just a lot of suspension work instead.
Gutting the cats on your stock h pipe is a stupid stupid idea (personally). If you want to do minor modifications with cheaper install price, then get a cat-back exhaust first, and if you want more sound, power, and performance, get a new midpipe. Gutting the cats on your stock mid pipe wont get the same performance gains as a high flow catted midpipe because of the pipe diameter.
^^^No..... lol...
Devinsteen is right. Nothing you wanted to do will gain you anything by itself....
Do suspension work and get some 4.56's and you'll have all the throttle response you ever wanted.
