i dont think the year matters unless its like a 69, cause then it wouldnt have fuel injectors, but hey, w/e.

The fuel injectors do make a ticking noise, fyi. You sure its not them?

Depends on what is " Ticking ". Could be:

A. Injector noise

B. Valve train noise

C. A loose spark plug

D. An exhaust leak

As far as the dealer saying that the noise is " Normal " I found that sometimes they try to bs. you. I once bought a town car with the 5.0 engine. While under the used car warranty, it started to rattle, like a rod knock when I started it in the morning. I took it into the dealer, & the service manager told me that it was normal for the car to sound like that because the factory built the engines " loose " that year. I told him that I was born at night, but not last night. I got a rebuilt engine.

Some engines in some years have known problems. For example my 03 mach 1, i knew that there were some problems with those heads which is the ONLY reason i kept going back to the dealer. If i wouldnt have known i dont think i would have got it fixed under warranty.

the 03/04 cobras were plagued with a "head tick" however i dont know of any other years/model having the same problems. However i wouldnt rely on the dealership to be on the complete up and up so id take it to another mechanic to make sure its indeed what they say it is.
