Default Transmission/Gear question

Ok, 4.10 gears are not good for the highway daily driver because 5th gear RPMs are too high. At least that's what I've gathered so far. Would replacing your transmission w/ a 6 speed make any difference at all?

yes..being as it would be double overdrive..but your thinking about it way too much, if 4.10s are too much, do 373s, thats what i did..or for the people who will cry saying that 373s arnt enough, do 390s..

Yes it would because 6th gear is usually a lot lower than most 5th gear in 5 spds. Not always the case but most of the time.
Now that being said, in addition to your RPM's being higher, your potential of losing control will be a lot higher. Dont believe me, just look at all the wrecked stangs over the winter. Then look at how many of those cars had aftermarket gears. I bet most of em did.

Replacing your stock transmission with a 6-speed transmission will only help you if the 6th gear ratio is lower than the stock transmission's 5th gear.

thanx. I know it seems like I'm just throwing random questions out there periodically. I'm new to this side of cars. And I want to know what I'm talking about when I have to discuss things. So when a question pops in my head I ask u guys.

You would only run about 2800 rpm's in 5th gear at 80mph,Thats not to bad.My car runs 2200rpm's in 5th at 80 with stock gears.
