Default Starting Problems

I'm having some trouble starting my stang at times and am not sure what is causing it. When I try to start it and turn the key all the way it sort of half starts and then the electronics and stuff stay on but the engine dies. Then the next time I crank the key the engine usually starts right up. There has never been a time when it didnt start on the second or third time. What could be causing this? Most likely the starter?

I would check the starter and the IAC valve. Mine had the same symptoms and only got worse. When it starts up, can you rev it and keep it running?

no sure I will try to rev it to keep it going next time and see what happens. Did you fix yours?

Yea, I had to get a new IAC valve which wasn't very expensive. Mine got to the point that it could not idle at all. That may not be your problem but I would definitely have it looked at.

if your not having idle problems, check your fuel filter as well.... Mine did that a few times before I noticed some power loss, etc... nice cheap thing to replace and see if it gets rid of the issue.

I had the same problem with my 03 mustang. The starter would ingage and the engine would turn but it woodnt kick over on restarts. I took it to the dealer knowing it wasn't the starter and turned out it was a censor in the intake. well at least thats what they tell me. And now i have no problems with it
