RE: Magnaflow exhaust - rattling problem?

Ahh!!! Only rattling in at certain RPMs would suggest it is that Hanger rod! That the hanger, the portion thatgoes forward along the tip and held in placeat only one end by the set screw, is hitting it's"resonance frequency"!

Wikapedia - In physics, resonance is the tendency of a system to oscillate at maximum amplitude at a certain frequency.

So at most frequencies/RPMs, and for those that only hear it intermittently, most of the time the deflection is not enough to hit the Tips, butat its resonance frequency, it deflects much more and RATTLE!

There arelikely 2, maybe 3, different RPMs you can hit the resonance frequency. There can be much more, but our engines would blow up first. I would think loud Bass can probably excite it enough too.

So again you can either take that Hanger out and trim it in half or more, so thatonly a little stub sticks out past the set screw, or damp its vibration with some sort of rubber clip or collar, so it can't hit it's resonance frequency anymore. Probably easier to just Dremel/Cut the rod shorter.

ORIGINAL: Dan04COBRA

I tacked mine and still had the rattle. The metal 'pole' above your tip - where it bends to go up into the rubber hanger in your bumper, that little bend can also hit the tip & cause a rattle.

Mine only rattled at weird RPM's like yours.
Mine I fixed with a 2" chunk of 3/8 fuel line on the rod hanger by the exhaust tipin front ofthe set screw and tack weld the tip to the pipe and the rod to the tip. quietened up any rattles.

mine had slid over in the exhast hanger and was touching my rear bumper.. rattled a bit and did a little melt action on it.. gotta love it when issues like that start randomly on the highway[&:]

Did you put the tubbing on the hangerbetween the set screw and the bumper (where the little bend is) or between the set screw and the collar where you tighten the tip to the 2.5" tubbing? I spent some timereving my engine and listening and found that it rattles on the left side at about 1500 rpms. Did I mention I hate rattles.
