As long as they are taken care of 4.6 SOHC are good engines. I wouldn't fear it. Start the modding!

i mean if you've really got some money to work with, get rid of the car and start with a nicer platform such as a 3v or 4v...

You should do a compression test on all cylinders to make sure all is well before you go FI.

honestly what id do.. is buy a forged 4.6 engine, and the aftermarket parts you want, and by the time ur done, lets say the engine has 120-150k miles on it, swap them out and sell ur old engine for some more modding money, that way you can actually plan ur project out, and have a brand new engine to work with.

Dude I agree totally with the new engine. As crazy as that sounds if you want to plan out your project and really make it nice. The only way to do it is to take your time and have it on the engine stand. I just changed over my heads and I wish I had pulled the motor and done it on the stand. I would start writing a list of all the things you want and plan it out. You can get blocks and engines from anywhere "ebay" maybe? talk to your local machine shop and see what they have to say about what you want. Don't be afraid to let them know that your on a budget and that you want to take your time. "Because we all are on some kind of budget"
