Default SN95 cobra

Im just wanting to know a bit about them.... Instead of buying an 03/04 cobra would it be better to buy one of these and just s/c it? How much power can the stock engine of the 96-98 cobra handle?

Exactly what dissadvantages (besides not being s/c) does the sn95 cobra have under the 03/04s?

So i just read in another thread that the 96-98 cobras can hold well over 1000 rwhp on a stock block? Is this true?

The block can handle it. That doesn't mean the internals can. The rods and pistons in that engine are the same crap that is in the GT's. You would have to buy forged rods and pistons(already has a forged crank). You would also have to do a transmission upgrade. That poor T-45 would never see that coming. Really it's not going to save you a huge amount of money in the long run to do it right.

96-98 only have a forged crank. They can handle up to 500 hp on stock internals.

The 96-98 blocks are good for whatever you can throw at it, but the internals suck (in comparison to the 03-04s). There are limited to aroun 400 safely. Anything over that, and you can kiss rings, rods, etc good bye (mostly rings though). Also, the sn's have a suck T45, whereas the t56 in the new ones are near bullitproof. All that being said, it would still be cheaper to buy a sn and then forge and s/c it, but not by a whole lot. I have a 97 and love it, but I would trade for an 03-04 in a heartbeat.

i have read of cases of the stock teskid block, the one thats in the sn95 cobras, holding excess of 1000 hp, with the right rods, but the block itself was factory stock. so dont worry about that.

the sn95 will make for a much faster car. its lighter has a stick axle looks so much sexier than the 03 cobras and are considerably cheeper
