programers diablo vs. hypertech etc?
on the octane thing, propellerhead made it pretty simple for me. It is only a few bucks a month extra, to bump performance.
No real cons AFAIK. Depending on how much you bump the tranny settings, it'll stress that a bit. Pretty much, if you don't fiddle with stuff you don't know you won't really break anything. Oh, this was assuming an auto tranny. If you have one, you can tighten the shifts and all.

If you have a programmer you don't need a chip. A chip has its purpose however. One of them is those flip chips where you can have 3 tunes and change them via a switch. However, if you don't need to change tunes in a matter of seconds/minutes the programmer is fine. Plus, you can't dynamically change things on a chip - it must be sent off for a new tune(s). By dynamically, I mean on your own. The programmer, you set the settings and upload the tune.

Not to be retarded, but it was going to be from where propellerhead ordered his. Problem is I can't find most of his emails, even though I did not nuke them. (I have to use web based email[:@]) So, I'd get with him.

Check DiabloSport's FAQs. Premium fuel is used so the timing can be advances. Same thing as a Timing Advancer but you can set the timing in two RPM bands, not just one setting for everything. If you really want to run 87 octane, you can install the Performance Tune then back off the timing until you don't hear knocking. But you won't get the most out of the Performance Tune. From what I've read, the timing and air/fuel ratios are tweaked for power. Backing off the timing will lessen the benefits from the Performance Tune.
Chips and programmers do about the same thing but in a different way. There's lots of info all over the web about these. The chip is plugged into the EEC and it takes over some of the signals. The programmer rewrites the tables in the EEC. The warranty ****'s at the Ford dealer can easily spot a chip thats hanging off the EEC. An updated table in the EEC's EEPROM is hard to find. A chip won't let you read and clear diagnostic fault codes in any OBD-II Ford. It won't let you do any data logging either. You need to go back to a professional tuner to make updates to the chip. With a programmer, you do them yourself. If that's not your thing you can still load tunes that a professional tuner creates for you. The only advantage a chip has over a programmer is the flip switch feature that lets you switch between tunes as fast as you can flip a switch. The programmer takes about a minute to rewrite the tables.
I got mine from Motorhaven. Great fast service. Don't freak out and whine like a brat when their online order status page doesn't show any updates.
I updated my cardomain thing with a page about the Predator.
