Default engine light

The engine light came on today.
My 2000 GT has 41000 miles.
What is the most likely problem?
Can it be that my cold air intake filter is dirty?
I don't want to bring it to the dealer and pay $$$..

Take it to autozone. They will check it for free.

You are kidding right?
You first need to fingure out what the code is with a computer that reads codes, do you have one? Then you need to follow the diagnostic flow chart, do you have one of those? Then you may also need to reflash the pcm with an updated program after fixing the issue that caused the check enine light to come on, can you do that too?
Take it to a dealer and pay the $100 for an hour diag.
