There is not a lot of lag depending on the size of turbo you use... your still pushing the same amount of exhaust through the hot side of the turbo.
The problem with the 94-04 mustangs is clearance. Like I said earlier, i really looked into the kit. They also have oiling problems with the turbo's due to the lenth of line it travels off the sending unit.
They are the same as any other turbo. It doesnt work any different, it just mounts differently... quite a few GM vehicles have them.. ive seen more than one rear mount LS1 Fbody.
