SCT has some kind of livewire thing that you can tune your car and hook it up to your laptop for readings. I'm not really familiar with it, let someone else chime in.

Sorry to get away from the SCT which seems to be a huge hit on here, but what about the sniper tuning system. I know there are alot of guys in my area running this system, and most of the reports on it say that it is working out great and it's really easy to use. I am even thinking of ditching my diablo based tune and going for it.

I believe you can look into the Anderson FOrd PMS system. I think that is a stand alone system that you would use a laptop to tune your car.

If that doesn't work for you, you can always hit Paul Walker up for the setup he had in the fist Fast and The Furious...it will even tell you when you are about to burst the welds on your manifold! Wow, I feel so lame for even watching that movie.

http://www.moates.net

you have to buy approx 100$ worth of parts to flash the prom and dl the EEC EDITOR software (which is free). Then you hookthe carto your lappy and tune away. Software has a good support through the creator and a forum on Moates site

LET ME CLEAR THIS UP!

The Sniper software only allows you to adjust parameters that the other tuners allow you to do ON THE HANDHELD! It is worthless, and very few dyno shops support it. Your best bet for something like that is SCT or Diablosport.

If you want the same level of tuning that the dyno shops do, which I'm assuming is what you want, you are going to have to shell out a heap of money OR toss out your ECU and move to something like a MegaSquirt box... which is going to be very technically involved and you are going to be sacrificing some functionality. SCT sells a "proracer package" which is the tuning software that the dyno shops have that is limited to one car... I have not e-mailed them about the price for it, but I expect it to be in the $1200 range. You can e-mail them and find out though.

SCT's Livewire is just a datalogger, nothing else. It is a cool addition if you're already buying a tuner, I'd get it if it were like $450-500... but they want $550 for it I think, when a handheld is $400. It's just not worth it because to get A/F ratio you still need to buy a wideband O2 sensor, and the other things will not work on their own.

There you have it.
