My buddy is a GM tech. He and I have been working on trying to figure out this problem.

I bought the car in my sig about 5 months ago. When I bought the car it was hard to put into gear and still is. 1st gear I sometimes have to reclutch and force it in. 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th snag a bit. Reverse is just as hard as 1st. He doesn't have alot of time for side jobs right now, but we checked to see if the clutch cable was stretched. We tested it and this was not the case. We took out the short-throw and tried to install my friends stock '03 shifter into my '01. Unfortunately it didn't fit so we don't know if that's what's causing the problem.

There is a performance clutch installed. I'm unsure of what kind. I can see it's orange and that's about it. The guy I bought the car from works on boats and says he installed it himself. I know it's tough to tell what it could be, but was hoping someone might have ran into the same problem as I. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the syncros are worn out

 

Shift through the gears with the engine off and see if its easier. If the shifts are smoothe while the car is just sitting but are difficult when running its the synchros.

 

I agree with the other guys that its probably your synchros
