First off let me say my car is 98,an automatic, and this problem only ocurs in first. So last night i peeled out of a street from a stop and let go of the gas and then stomped on it again only to hear a loud squealing sound shifting into 2nd. When it shifted, it shifed at around 5k, and i wasnt even on the gas that hard. Ne ways, i come to a light and stop. When i take off i start speeding up but my transmision wont shift from 1st to 2nd, unless i let go of the gas and let it shift by itslef. Also, my first gear feel like if u had the car on 1 instead of drive, and will only shift at 2500 or higher into 2nd. My 1st gear also feels very slow compared to the RPMs. I dont think it had to do with the gears itself cuz i put in reverse and that was perfectly fine. The car is still drivable, and all the other gears are fine. Someone told me it could be a bad transmision solenoid in my 1st gear that could be causing the problems. Could this be it. And also, is it OK to drive my car the way it is right now or should i get this fixed ASAP. Thanx.
