Default 5.4L GT500 engine

Anyone ever thought about putting a GT500 crate engine in their 99-04? I would imagine you would need obviously the engine, computer, wiring harness and probably transmission. Am i missing anything?

probably been thought about, but it would be more cost-efficient to put a Terminator motor with a KB on it and you would have a GT500 Killer

Exactly like he said, in terms of exclusivity *if thats a word* it'd be neat to do.

But cost/horsepower, I'm more than positive there are many many options that would yield better numbers for far less money/work than swapping an entirely different motor over.

Not to thread jack, but whats the main difference between the GT's 5.4 and the GT500's 5.4?

you could buy a decent new car for the price you'd spend on that and everything for it.

Yeah i am not even thinking about doing it I just thought it would be one hell of a project and it would definitally be one of a kind. The difference between the GT and GT500 engines I THINK is that the GT engine is an all aluminum block and has different heads.

the GT 5.4 is a 2v, the GT500 is a 5.4 4v. now as said before it'd be more cost efficient to drop in a terminator with a KB, GT500 engines are like $15000ish i believe? now if you had the money, get that and then slap a KB on that, they did that in muscle mustangs and fast fords magazine and it was putting enormous numbers to the wheels.

The Ford GT (supercar) has a 4v head, not a 2v. The gt500's block is iron whereas the GT's block is aluminum. The GT also uses a different supercharger if I am not mistaken. The GT500 actually uses the same heads as the Ford GT. It's easy to get the engine, put on a blower and get good numbers, but getting that engine to work in a new edge chassis would require LOTS of modification. A 5.4 4V is a WIDE engine, and would prob be necessary to modify the strut towers to make it fit in anything BUT the S197 chassis. I should also add that the GT(supercar) has a dry-sump engine

Absolutely not. It's a 4v in the Ford GT. It would not be considered a supercar if it's heart were that of the underpowered 2v Mustang GT's.

As for the original poster, do you have any idea how much it cost for a GT500 crate engine? For the 10k+ you'd spend just for the crate engine, you could sell your car, buy a Terminator & have money left over to do plenty of mods.

The supercharger on the Ford GT is a twin screw style blower made by a companied named Lysholm. They wanted to use the same blower on the GT500 but Lysholm could not match the production numbers of the GT500. So they obviously stayed with the Heaton.[:'(]

It wouldn't be that hard to fit the 5.4 4v out the the GT500 into a SN95. It just would be really expensive and not worth it.
