Default A/C Recharge Questions

The motor was just replaced in my 00 GT. The ac lines were disconnected. Can I just recharge it or do I have to bleed the system. I've never done this before so I'd like to know how much of the R134a I would need,

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Realistically you should have the system put under vacuum by a shop so the system can be tested for leaks.

Pulling a vacuum on the system for 30 minutes or so ensures that all moisture has been removed--it literally "boils" any moisture from the system. It is not 100% necessary, however if the system has been flat and open to the atmosphere for some time, and depending on the relative humidity where you live, not doing so can lead to very poor performance (a/c performance, not the motor) and can even damage the compressor and valving...It is the proper way to do it, if the system was open for any period of time then it's close to essential...

Really, it is aMUST that you pull a vacuum. If you don`t, the moisture/air that is in the system will for sure kill the compressor in time. Filter dryer should also be changed if the system has been open to the atmosphere.Best way to check for leaks it to put dry nitrogen in the system, watch your guage to make sure the pressure doesn`t drop after you fill it with the nitrogen, also put some leak detector around all the joints to make sure there are no leaks. Dish soap will work for looking for a leak as well.
