It goes in the back of the crank. there is a hole and you just beat it in. The input shaft from the tranny rides in it.

To what? remove or install it? To remove it, it can be a PITA. You canuse a special puller, or you can usegrease gun. Never done the grease gun method so don't ask me how it's done.

To put it in, just get a block of wood and a dead blow hammer. Make absolutely sure the pilot bearing is lined up with the Crankshaft before giving it a whack or use a socket that is the same size as the Pilot to tap it into place (with a hammer).

always a good idea, just wipe off the excess, be sure to grease the inner part of the pilot bearing once it's in as well as the input shaft on the tranny.

Oh okay i got it now (went and actually looked) so i have to use the puller tool to get the pilot bearing off of the input shaft of the transmission? is that right?

No the tool should be two arms that go into the pilot bearing and then you tighten a nut which presses the arms out against the bearing. You should have a slide hammer to screw onto the puller. Give it a couple of good bangs and it will come out.

it's a bitch to get out most of the time,i ended up shattering the one in my '86 and pulling it out in pieces, the grease method didn't work for sh*t. Install is simple though, use a socket and tap it back.
