Default i made a bonehead move today

i have a '99 GT. last night i had a radiator cap crack on me, and it spewed antifreeze all over the front of the engine compartment. i knew washing down the engine bay with water wasnt a great idea, but i needed this stuff off quick. i tried to keep the water away from everything electrical and the engine itself, just concentrated on the cooling system where most of it was spilled. anyways, shortly afterwards, i drove the car and it feels like its missing BADLY and my service engine light even came on. i then took a leaf blower to the entire engine compartment trying to blow away all remaining water. i got everything all dry and the service engine light went back off, but the car still feels like its missing and even idles a little weird. ive heard of water getting to the spark plugs or something that could cause it to do this. any ideas of what needs to be dried out and be done? again, i know it was a stupid idea, so dont trash me, but i need help.

thanks guys!

i dont think water did that...i have taken degreaser and sprayed my ENTIRE engine down then washed it off with water hose....and nothing out of the ordinary happened except a shinyier engine. of course goin down the road a tiny bit of smoke from the degreaser and water burning off but that was it.

Agreed. Several have had this happen on here and either waiting for it to dry or driving the car for a few miles usually solves the problem.

I would put my $$ on a coil pack going bad. Is it missing bad at low rpms 1000-2200 or so?

just 2 days ago i changed my oil and desided i wanted to clean my motor. so i took some degreaser and sprayed everything off and took the hose and squirted everything off. yes even the coil packs, and the alternator, battery, everything ecectrical i didnt care. than when i got done i took the air compressor and blew everything dry, wiped it all down and let the hood stay open for a few hours before i started it. the weather was around 90 so it helped dry it in the sun. and i have had no problems. i can still beat a camarro ss so i know my car is still runing fine.

+1
If one of your coil packs has a hairline crack in the case it might have gotten some water in it and is acting up.
Are you sure it was your cap that went bad and that you didn't really overheat due to head gasket etc?
Any coolant in the oil or oil in the coolant? Check for bubbles or gray/brown sludge on the oil dipstick.

If the basics seem ok, IOW you don't have a blown head gasket etc... I would clear PCM codes and let it dry out and see if it gets better.
Coil packs will usually throw a code when they get sick.

I'd pull all the coil packs out..blow out all the spark plug holes..let the engine dry out over a day or so(if you can) clear the codes ...water and antifreeze can and will get into the spark plug holes passed the coils.
