Default Removing coils

SO, my buddy's 01 GT has a miss under load, so i figured lets change the plugs and see if that helps. the chrome fuel rail, over the coil packs, what is the procedure for removing it, i started to and it sprayed fuel everywhere. Also, is it possible to test a coil pack? Thanks

You have to relieve the fuel system pressure before tampering with the system. If you have a Haynes manual the procedure is in there. I'll go out in my garage shortly and look it up because I can't remember exactly how to do it without looking at it again.

Never had to remove fuel rail.... but ok.

Yes it is possible to check a coil....

Easy if you have a WDS and are able to watch the powerbalance test. You can see which coil it is. Then you put it in a different cylinder and if it moves with the skip, then its the coil. If not, usually the plug

Also FORD plugs like the crack, so make sure you check the plug very carefully.

But usually when you have a miss and you have coil's and not packs. Its usually the coil.

the 99+'s have a diffrent igntion system. They have a thing called COP...coil on plug (i think). So maybe the rails are in the way.i dunno.

I change my own plugs I have an 02gt. U can get around the rails there is no reason to remove the rails. the only one that is kinda retard it the last one on the passenger side. U just pull the coil packs up they are held down with one small bolt and then do the plugs as on anyother car.

LMAO....thats the funniest thing i have ever heard.... IM A FORD TECH!

sorry.. lol.. Yeah i know what they are. I have just never had to remove the fuel rail before. NEO pretty much gave it to you like it is. 8mm bolt... remove.
Pul up on coil pack, the bottom rubber boot also comes off. Its a 2 piece design.
You can bend them in what ever way you would like and they just slide on out.

Actually, the last plug on the passenger side, I have to loosen the rail just a hair to get the coil pack out. So, I do know what you're talking about. But you shouldn't have to take it off. Just lift it up a hair.
