Default steering box/tie rod problem?

i have a 96gt and i have a problem with the steering. when the wheels are straight, the steering wheel has to be turned a bit to the left, but it not an alightment problem, i got it checked today. the wheel feels loose and the crown in the road seems to drag the wheel to the right. also, when i move the wheel to make a large turn or just move it back and forth, it makes a loud pop noise, and my dad felt the tie rod where the sound was coming from(drivers side) and it vibrated when it poped. also, it looks like there may be a leak in the i think the steering column area under where the oil filter sits, next to the tie rod. it doesnt afect the drivabilty of the car, but i want this problem taken care of if possible. there is clear evidence that the front drivers side has been damaged from a wreck by a previos owner. any help would be great.
