Default New 4.6L engine...

Hey guys,

Im obviously new to the forum and just had a few questions that I hoped the Mustang enthusiasts here could help me out. I currently have a 95Mustang that I have put a lot of time and money into. I still owe a large amount of money on the car and don't care to sell it. I have major engine trouble and it's barely driveable as is. At this point, I'm looking at doing a V8 conversion.

The thing is, I'm having a lot of trouble finding anywhere that I can get a 4.6L engine from. Do you uys have any ideas? Also, do any of you have any clue as to how much this would cost. If I could keep it under $5,000 I would do it, as my budget doesnt allow any higher than that at this point in time.

Thanks for the help and any suggestions...

I would be willing to bet you get one out of a wrecked car with low miles for far less than 5 grand. Check your local wrecking yards and fish around on the net for used motors.

Hmm....

A friend had mentioned to go the 5.0 route as well. I'm not too familiar with the 5.0 engine. The 95GT's had the 5.0, so I know it's fuel injected, so that would be a good way to go...

How much would that alternative run? As far as things go at the moment. Im looking at a new engine and everything that I would need to get started. Also, a new tranny is probably a thought as well. I want to keep it under 5k as I said. If I could a 5.0L, a new tranny and everything to set it up for around that price, it would be perfect. I have 107k miles on this Mustang, and its about at the end of its lifespan.

Can any of you recommend a site online where I could check prices on a 5.0L and new/used transmission.

What else would I be looking at to get this project going?

How much would labor on something like this run?

I really appreciate the help!

Go on the Stangnet.com and Corral.net classifieds, there's always 302 blocks/engines for sale. And they're far easier to work on then any modular motor.

at stangparts.comthere is a detailed article on how to do the 3.8 to 5.0 swap. in there it will tell you all of the things that you are going to need. when i was looking at doing the conversion i found lots of used 5.0s in the back of autotrader. i would suggest you find someone you know to do the work for you if you aren't going to do it yourself, but you could probably get the motor, parts, and work done for under $5000

The 5.0 is SOOOOOO easy to work on. For 5 grand you could drop a 5 liter in and have a really killer motor. If you do the work yourself you will save a ton, unless you have a friend at a shop youre going to have to hear the ol' expensive custom swap BS from your mechanic. Its not that hard to do just take your time and be careful.

Im still in the process of looking for a new engine. What would be some good sites where I can look and see some prices? I have a shop lined up that is going to do the swap for me since I do not have the time nor the place to do it. Anyway, I dont think the V6 transmission would be adequate for a 5.0. What do you guys think? Im having problems with it as it is.

Any ideas?
