Default throwing a code

P0156 - its an 02 sensor circuit malfunction bank2 sensor 2. I know what it is. I just got an Off road H and put the pipe on before I put them MIL eliminators I bought on. I bought the MIL eliminators used, so I'm thinking one of them is not working right, because I plugged them in all the way I'm sure. and I've had the codes cleared about 4 times. The light always comes back on. I was just wondering what I should do.... buy a new set of MIL's? or should I try to find JUST ONE new one that I can get to fix it.

Which side is sensor 2, left or right side of the pipe?? What should I do? WIll myl engine run rich or run poorly if my light stays on too long?

The MIL eliminator may be bad.

Bank 2 is theDRIVER's (thankscliffyk for the correction, see below)side. Sensor two is the cat monitor (after the cat). Try switching the MIL eliminators from one side to the other, and see if the code changes to the opposite side. This will confirm your MIL eliminator is bad, or their is something else going on (like wiring, etc).

The cat monitors ONLY serve to tell the ECU that your cats are working or not. They will NOT affect driveability, performance, or fuel delivery. They are for emmission purposes only. You can drive around wtih the light on all day every day and never hurt anything other than your pride.

+1

If you have a tuner, you can turn off the sensors with it also. You probably know this but threw it out just incase!

thats a good idea about switching the MIL, thanks.

And yes I did know about the tuner, but thanks, I wish I had the money for one, although I don't see much benefit from it with just my bolt ons, maybe one of these days if I ever get a blower!

just wondering: so you say that these 02 sensors are just there to check the emissions to see if cats are working? And, but if the cats are "not working", doesn't that mean the ECU will do something about that to compensate for the cats not working?? Just trying to get a better concept.

AND thank you for the diagrams, thats great information. Thanks i'll try the switch soon.

No, they will only set the MIL on. The computer cannot "make" the cats work. But since bad cats are a major smog problem, they will turn on the light and set a code so that the average driver takes it in to the dealer for a fix. That's all.
