Help a noober out please. I have a 96 cobra, the first year of the modular. I would like to know, in order to tune my engine do I replace the chip itself, or do I get one of those performance programmers and set the peramiters that way?

If it is the programmer Ill have a few more questions, but would like to know what I need to buy first.

You can do it either way. Getting a chip custom burned will likely cost more because it will involve dyno time plus the cost of the chip.

 

If I get the programmer. Is it real easy to know what setting to set. Or does it take someone who really knows what there doing. Such as does it tell you what each setting does. I never figured that out, and if your just guessing then how will you know if its better or worse?

 

So what your saying is you can either get the programmer or the chip right? I have been told you need to get the chip. But the programer is alot cheeper. But would you need to get a dyno tune with the programer or not. Do you recomend one?

 

I didnt know if they make programmers for a 96. Thats why I was asking if its an option.
