I have BBK LT ceramic coated headers. Installed them last winter and they are rusting. Isnt the ceramic coating supposed to prevent that?? They are rusting where the evaporator or drier for the AC drips on to the pass header and runs down the tubes. They are starting to rust heavily and I just noticed this just now. Is this normal or do I have a problem?? I dont feel like spending 1200 on Kooks stainless custom headers....
The ceramic coating is primarily there to keep heat in the header, hotter exhaust gasses flow faster than coller gasses. There is some corrosion protection advantage, but that's not the real reason for ceramic coatings. I've seen some ceramic coatings that did a great job of insulating the header but would flake off on you hands during installtion; I've seen others that were no more than a coat of that "ceramic" rattle can paint the sell at your FLAPS...
