Default Engine swap question

I have a 97 Mustang Gt w/ the 4.6 and factory 5 speed manual transmission. If I was to move up to an 02 4.6 2v engine, would it bolt right up to my transmission. What else would I need for this swap besides the ECU and wiring harness? Is it a hard swap?

you have the 4.6 2valve... youll save money doing just the PI swap and have a little bit more power and higher compression. but yes it should bolt right up. not sure how different your 5speed is from the 99+'s

my engine has 145k miles. If I was to do the head swap, i would be tempted to rebuild the whole engine and I really didnt want to go through that trouble. But if you think that would be better than buying a whole engine and that it would be easier, I may need to reconsider my options. Im wanting to build it quite a bit also but dont really have all the funds right now

I'm all about rebuilding the one you have. The block is good and if you forge the internals you can throw quite a bit at it and the engine should hold. However, I think that price is pretty fair for a long block. Am I correct in assuming that is what it is? I guess you could do that. Not a bad way to add 50 hp

i would stick with the block you have and do the rebuild on it, then do the PI head swap. i think that would be the best route for you togo, just my opinoon tho

damn......I really dont know what to do. I have an Escalade that my ex g/f is driving and thats my only alternate transportation. The only reason im LETTING her drive it is because we split up about a month ago and I want to make sure my son has something to ride in. If I can find something to drive till then, I might just do the rebuild instead, but I think its going to be a headache...

1) Get Custody
2)Get your Escalade back
3) Rebuild or replace the engine

It would probably be easier to pull your old one, and put in the newer 4.6 but youll need to get a tune as your computer will think its still NPI. Btw, tell your ex to get a job or go to school. I was in the same boat not too long ago my friend, believe me women like that need a swift kick in the *** to get motivated
