Default Clutch replacement

alright kinda sucks cuz my clutch is going out. i got a 97 gt and am looking for a new clutch kit. ive been looking at the spec stage 2 or 1 but am told i shouldnt go that heavy duty seeing how its my daily driver. ive also looked into the king cobra clutch. what would be better the spec stage 1 or the king cobra.

I literally just got done doing the same thing to my 97 GT. Listen to this because it will save you a lot of heartache in the future. I bought the Spec Stage 3. Don't believe the hype of people saying that it's impossible to drive that in traffic. It's not, in fact, I'm pretty sure the same pressure plate is used in all stages of the Spec clutches. So if you go spec, just go Stage 3 and be done with it.

NOW, here's the important part. Spec clutches are friggen notorious for having bad Throw Out Bearings. Everyone, and I do mean EVERYONE, I have talked to about this has agreed. So if you do the Spec clutch, get a better TOB and get a better retainer for it as well. I think that FRPP has one that will work. I am telling you this because I am dealing with the TOB right now. When my car's in gear, it squeaks and it squeaks bad. I can't get away from it and it is just because that TOB and retainer are crap.

I have no complaints with the clutch other than that. It's broken in now and grabs really nice. It makes my drivetrain feel more solid and confident. I like the clutch ,but that squeak is killing me! I don't know anything about King Cobra, so you're taking your chances on that one. But that's my view on Spec clutches. Please listen to this so you can come out on the other side with a postitive experience.

King Cobra is great. I've had it for 3 years with no problem except for a throw out bearing. Pedel effort is less than stock and it grips pretty decent, too.
