Default Interchangeable Heads

It was my understanding 4.6 2v head (windsor or romeo) from 96-04 would fit on any block 4.6 block (windsor or romeo) from 96-04. . . Am i wrong?

Thats correct but sometimes you may need to make a slight adjustment like i did when i put 2V heads on my 96 Cobra Teksid block. I had to drill a hole in the water pump housing for a coolant port the 2V heads have and 4V don't.

If the heads are the same, what do you do with the two extraWindsor valve cover bolts? Are the holesthere but just not used with Romeo valve covers, or do you have to drill and tap the heads to use Windsor valve covers?

windor heads work on romeo block and vice-versa...you just have to use the correct timing cover bolts for whatever combo you have. I have Windsor heads and just had to get a few different bolts to make them work on the Romeo block.

The heads are interchangable to the blocks but the valve covers are not good for different heads.

I have windsor heads (99) on a romeo shortblock (03). Works just fine. 72MachOne99GT, Im assuming you have a 99GT. If you're replacing a head just make sure you geta PI head. It doesn't matter which year it came from. A 99 Windsor head would be ideal, that way your heads, blockand valve covers would match. If you get a Romeo head you'll just have to get a new valve cover with it. I'tll be a bit of a Frankenstein motor but will work fine.

Thanks.

I was sort of leaning toward a 03+ head so I wont have to worry about the threads blowing out again.

You're just saying that if I do get a 03+ head, get the matching valve cover to go with.
