Pinging sounds like a couple BB's shaking in a Coffee Can.
Check for exhaust leaks. I thought I was pinging, but it turned out to be some rusted welds in the x-pipe. sounded exactly the same as pinging too!
Oh yeah, dont put 87octane in a GT.
