Default Does size matter?

Well ok so the subject may seem a bit more interesting then the actual question about to be asked but I found myself at a point where I cannot answer the question myself. Does the size of tailpipes matter? Several places offer the same exhaust kit but with different tip sizes such as the Mac Catback offers a 3" tip and a 3.5" tip. Does the tip size help with anything other then looks? I've tried youtube and several other places looking for exhaust systems as close to the same as possible but with different tip sizes and haven't been able to find any yet.

Maybe if your entire exhaust system was 3 or 3.5 ... it would matter SLIGHTLY but ... just for example if you had a 3inch piping system and 3.5 tips.. no it doesnt do anything outside of look better for appearence

the only thing that it could potentially do is change the loudness, throaty-ness, and looks of it but as for the tips being a 1/2 inch bigger its not like its going to add 5 extra rwhp then a 3 inch tip.

Thats what the shorty antenna is for ! No I knew there wasn't a performance increase from the tips being bigger, was just curious if the bigger tips enhanced the sound at all or if this was more of a cosmetic upgrade over 3". That's kinda rediculous then if they want to charge $320 for a mac catback with 3" tips and the same system with 3.5" is $370

too much will elminate back pressure, losing torque but increasing hp... mustangs are ok for using big or no exhaust... but ask a ls1 driver what he thinks about it and youll find that it does matter a lot, too big can cost you serious performance

dude, didn't you read the back pressure post on here a few weeks back. BACK PRESSURE = bad, SCAVENGING EFFECT = good.

i wish this myth would go away... if back pressure is good why do people run open heads at the track and run better times with people with closed heads... ideally, but it could never truely happen, is to have NO BACKPRESSURE... you will always have some but it is better to have as little as possible

Not at all. More material should cost more. I'm sick and tired of paying for how much horsepower I gain, I should pay for labor, R&D, and material.

The size of a tip is not going to do anything for backpressure. If you cut your stock tips off and weld on 3.5" tips, it isn't going to make a difference.
