Need some help, car is sputtering
I noticed today that when I am in 3rd or a higher gear, and when I push the peddle past about half way, the car sort of sputters for a little bit then goes. And when I shift gears, it will happen again at the same point in the throttle. It just started happening, I am about 1/4 way through the tank I just put in it. I changed the plugs, filter about 3,000 miles ago. Could it just be a bad tank of gas?
That happened to my car a year ago. I checked my plugs and there was oil on 2 of the plugs on my driver's side and also I had a crack in my thermostate housing causing coolant to leak into the front driver's side spark plug well. I replaced the housing and got my seals changed in my head and that took care of the problem for good. So I would recomend checking for leaking coolant and checking your coil packs and your spark plugs.
I found out it does it in second gear also. It feels like when you have traction on, and you try to spin alittle on wet pavement, and it cuts out a bit. Well that is what it sort of feels like.
Yeah that's what mine felt like. I had to take the plugs out and dry the oil off and dry oil off of the coil packs and that would fix the problem for like 2-3 weeks. Then it started getting worse and I just had my heads reconditioned with new seals for about 230 bucks but I took the heads off myself.
No, I haven't had any extra lights pop up. It drives normal, until I pus the gas further. and once it gets the sputtering out, it will drive normal with my foot down. It just sputters for maybe 10 seconds.
Hi, I have a 2003 GT auto since a few weeks now and noticed the same problem. When accelerating slowly in 3rd or O/D it'll sputter around 1300 rpm. When I cross 1300 rpm when accelerating a little bit faster there's no problem at all. When it starts sputtering I can make it sputtering for ever by sticking to 1300 rpm. The only way to get around is accelerating a bit or decelerating somewhat.
