97 GT convertible.....
Okay……driving home today from work, I was cruising down the highway at around 70MPH…suddenly, I hear “something” and then my “check engine” light came on, the steering became difficult, almost no brakes, and the engine temp started rising! I took the next off-ramp and limped into a parking lot. I raise the hood and just as I suspected, the drive-belt (serpentine) was missing.
After closer inspection, the alternator bolts were sheared off (top/rear bolts). The two bolts that hold the ignition wires were still intact, and the bottom (front) bolts were sheared off! Call for a tow truck and wait three hours for the driver to show up and get towed home ($80). Got a new drive belt and here is the problem…[&:]
When we try to align the alternator, the rear bolt-holes do not line up (the pulley on the alt lines up with the other pulleys). We can get the rear bolt-holes to line up, but the pulleys are not in line! Have I lost my mind, or am I cursed, or is there something that I am missing with this problem? Any help would be appreciated.
