You have a returnless fuel system so the regulator is in the tank next to the pump. It is electronicly controlled. How do you know the regulator is going bad? Are you sure its not the FPS?

i have an 03 and mine went out a few weeks ago. according to Ford, we dont have a a fuel pressure regulator, we have a fuel pressure sensor. its located on the fuel rail, a little black box. it cost $40 and took about 10 minutes to replace it.

If I could get my stupid ford cd to work I could show you the rgulator in the tank. Most of the time it is the FPS (fuel pressure sensor) that why I said to make sure that wasn't messed up.

Driver side. Black box with wires and a vacum line coming out of it.

Your pump might be dying or you have a leak in the fuel system like injectors or something. If you start it and let it run for a min and turn it off then try to start it right away does it start right up.
