Default SCT Tuner Help

I am looking into buying a sct xcal tuner from a friend for 250. The tune he has is not the same as my mods so i would be doing the tune or getting it tuned by a local dealer myself. I'm just wondering what things i could do myself with it. I wasn't sure if i could calculate the gears/tire size for my year with it or not. How is the data logging i hear its awsome once you learn to use it. I'd probably opt for the bumbed timing. I am looking at gettinggears soon so i was wondering if i could use this or not. Anyone use the data logging, how is it? Would this be worth it or no?
