Default engine swap

Ok I have a 2001 mustang GT. Just bought it and some lady hit me and i didnt have collision on it. It ended up being more money to fix the car than what i paid for it. The engine is still perfect with a bigger throttle body and cold air intake with flowmaster exhaust. But i was wondering if I could buy a V6 mustang for cheaper and drop the V8 in there. Would it cost too much and require too much labor to do that and i should just buy another gt? What should i do?

Thanks

for the time and effort involved, i personally would just get another GT rather than mess with a V6 Mustang trying to swap the engine. just get a GT and then sell the engine and trans from the wrecked car. the swap is possible, there's a guy on here that i saw last week talk about swapping a 4.6 into his V6 stang, so maybe he'll see this and can give you some pointers about what all you'd need to do.

as a side note, if you do decide to get a GT and want to sell the engine out of the wrecked one, send me a PM because i know someone who will probably be interested. a friend of mine is looking at building a kit car (Shelby Cobra replica) and wants to use a 4.6modular engine/trans in it.

Hey man I did this same swap a year ago all I needed was of course the engine and tranny, wiring harness, computer, hydr. brake assy.and driveshaft, also need to have and H or X pipe and exhaust. I also needed the steering wheel and pedal assy. because I went from an auto to a manual. after all is said and done get a dealer reflash and you will be good to go. Cost my about 1000 bucks and 3 months worth of free time. Anything else hit me up!

If someone hit you then it would be their liability insurance that pays, not your collision (unless you are in a "no fault" state). It is their job to get you back to where you were befor the accident. I would fight for enough money to get a replacement GT and save the trouble of having to swap a motor into a V6.

i'm not sure where he lives, but in Texas it doesn't quite work like that. you have the option of insuring yourself for uninsured/underinsured drivers, because even their liability insurance won't cover damage to your car in all cases. we found this out the hard way when some dumba$$ backed into my fiance's car (on public property) and fled the scene. witnesses got the guy's license plate #, and they tracked the guy down, and it turns out he only had liability insurance... the bare minimum, and it didn't cover damage to our car. so fortunately our insurance had coverage for underinsured drivers and all we had to pay was a $250 deductible on about $2000 worth of damage. we asked the insurance company if it would be worth pursuing in a civil court to recover that deductible, and they told us to not even bother, it wouldn't be worth our time and effort. and since we lived in hillbilly-a$$ Lubbock Texas, the local police dept didn't give a sh*t, didn't try him for hit and run or anything, which i BELIEVE is a felony in Texas.

That is all true. I just wanted to make sure he knew that it "should" be paid by the other person (or their insurance). It sucks if the person that hit him wasn't carring enough insurance.

Good luck with the swap BigRed!

Uh, somebody took you for a ride dude. In Texas the minimum limits are 20/40/15. That means each driver has to have at least $15k worth of Property Damage liability coverage. Backing into somebody in a parking lot doesn't usually cause that much damage. Unless that's her car in your Avatar.

he backed right into her driver front tire. bent up the fender, cracked the bumper cover and headlight/turn signal, bent the hood and pushed it over a few inches which also messed with the passenger front fender, bent a tie rod, and a couple other small things. after the parts and labor, the total was just a hair under $2000. it was an old Ford pickup with a pipe rear bumper and even at a low speed it did a LOT of damage.

i was making a left turn at an intersection. i had a green light, not arrow. The oncoming traffic lane comes out of a substantial curve and comes right into the intersection. The road was also lined by trees on the other side of the intersection. It was getting dark out and a black SUV, without her lights on, comes around the corner, going over the speed limit, and hits me. She didnt swerve or brake or anything before she hit me. She also had plenty of time and room to swerve because i saw her as she entered the intersection and i had put on my brakes and was at a complete stop. Why didnt she miss me? Prolly because she was too busy talking to her friend in the passenger seat and not paying attention. But after all said and done, by law its my fault because i didnt have the protected left arrow, even though she was speeding.

But back to my question. Would the value of the engine drop severely if i want to keep the cold air intake? and is flowmaster exhaust stock? and one more question, my throttle body looks huge(maybe cuz i drove a 4 banger before this) and newer than the rest of my engine. But it has a mustang on it. So do you think my throttle body is still stock?
