Putting the fake vents to good use?

Putting the fake vents to good use?
I have always despised the fake hood scoop and side vents on the 99-04 Mustangs. Any ideas of how to put these to good use? Any down side of cutting the plastic covers out?

For the hood, there is one down side. Rain. The problem is that water can collect in the valleys of your engine and you can get rust.
For the side scoops, you could make them functional but I'm not sure that cooling the rear breaks would make that much difference. Some cars have side scoops that redirrect air up and out the back of the car... probably for downforce however unless you cant to create duct work to your trunk, it's not advised. If you do the hood scoop, I seriously suggest you make a cover so you can keep it closed up except when you're running your car hard (and it's dry). Either that or run some sort of run off for water and attach it to the bottom of the hood.

Sounds like a pain. Make them functional isn't really a big deal to me...making them look real is. I get people all the time commenting about the FAKE vents. It is pretty crappy looking.

heh, well, you can drill out the hood scoop. And you can probably do the same thing to the side scoop. Just make sure to paint or otherwise (vinyl or black tape) make the area behind it black.

Hmmm... A shaker-like system using a metal flap w/ weather seals would be sweet. When it's nice out, open it up to pump some extra air in, when it's wet, close it up and use the stock intake only.

k&n makes a system to make the hood scoop functional. ram air style. it involves putting a duct on the underside of your hood that routs air to the filterbox which resides in the stock location.
