Default Another power window question

Last week I bought a 97 gt with 72k at an auction for $3100 and it is in nice shape BUT it has one issue I cant seem to solve. The power windows will not operate at all. I checked the fuse and switches and they tested fine with the meter. I ran a jumper wire from the battery to one side of the window motor and grounded the other side and the window goes down or up depending what terminal I hook to. I have searched this forum and found people have had some window issues so I have tried hitting the door with no luck. If I had to guess it seems to be something with a ground wire but I can not seem to figure this one out. It seems that the ground wire runs through the lock module. Has anyone had one of these go bad causing the window to not operate? If I am asking a question that has been dealt with 100 times and I somehow missed it in the searchI apologize but I just cant seem to find someone who had the same exact issue.

Its probably the relay if the switches, fuse and motors are good.

Maybe I'm mistaken but I did not think the 97s had a relay. Is that the module in the door panel? I do not here a click when I hit the switch. If there is a relay where can I find it?

That Haynes manual is crap since so many little things changed over each model year. Get a year specific shop manual on CD from ebay. I know in the '99-'04 the relay is in the driver's side kick panel, but it does make a clicking noise when its not working. So it might be a bad ground.

Thanks I will do that. I have never had such a tough time solving a wiring issue. I am leaning toward thinking it is a ground issue but I am going to work on it more this evening. Thanks for the help.

I've heard that also but I can make the windows go up and down by applying power to the motor so I know they are working. I just cant seem to get it to go with the switch even though the switch test out fine. I have a feeling the previous owner must have tried installing a remote start because while trying to fix the windows I have found a few taps into ignition wires. I enjoy the challenge of fixing this butI am starting to fear what the previous owner may have messed up.

behind the brake petal there should be a grey plug that looks like a harness for a radio. check if its plugged in tight. it fixed my problem.

Well I found the problem. It was a broken ground wire in the door harness. I repaired it and everything works great. Thanks everyone for the pointers. Now I can concentrate on a few other smallthings to make her road worthy.
