Default PI head swap problem! need help

I started the swap on my 98 gt about 2 months ago and have been running into this problem since. i got the heads off either a 2000 or 01 gt and had them reworked at a machine shop. when we put the heads on we cant seem to get the timing right, it keeps hitting somthing. when i look down the plug whole it looks like a valve is hitting a piston. if anyone knows anything or can help please reply. I reused the same cam gears off the 98 and wondering if that may be the problem. but anyhow, i dont know much about mechanics.

i would suggest........you make 100% sure that you are using the drivers side cam on the drivers side and the passanger side cam on the passanger.

easy way to tell:
look at the first lobe on each of the cams, from the front of the engine.

on the drivers side, if the cam where to turn counterclock wise, the #1 lobe should make contact with the lash adjuster first.
on the passanger side, it should be the #2 lobe making contact before the #1 lobe. (intake lobe makes contact before the exhaust lobe on each cylinder. in my example, im comparing the #1 cylinder lobes (passanger side) to the #5 cylinder lobes (drivers side)).

it makes a hell of a difference. i did the PI intake first, then a few months later the PI cams, then about 6 months later the PI heads. each time i installed one of the PI parts, it makes a noticeable difference.

I gained 72 rwhp from a PI swap and tune. Yeah, definetly worth it.

I reused my 98gt cam gears and timed it like the haynes manual said to and didn't have any timing issues. If you do in fact have windsor heads (13/14 bolt valve covers) you need to get bigger bolts that bolt the timing case cover to the heads also.
