Can I launch with a auto trans?
Yes, this is another auto question hopefully its my last one! How do I launch from a auto trans? I was challeged by a punk in a Eclispe, but due to traffic we didn't race (Damn! Finally somebody challenges me and I couldn't race). Anyway he had a manual transmission and I heard him finding his RPM so he could take off. Is there a way to launch with a auto or do I just step on the gas when it's time to go? I hope there is a way to launch because my stang likes to spin her tires when I accelerate hard.
Here is what I do, I just ease into the gas so as not to spin too bad, if you mash it to the floor from a stop you will spin, but not as bad as a stick (I am sure this will change when i get gears). To get a good jump on them you can left foot break and ease into your gas a little, just enough to bring your rpm's to 1000-1200 or so and lunch from there. Is your car stock? do you have gears? Hope this helps, also just practice will help a lot.
yeah from a dead roll left foot on the brake and then give it a littl egas while doing that and your rpms will raise. i can get mine to about 1500-1800 and then when time to go release the brake and put down the gas pedal.
highway or from a roll you can't do much about it, thats why i like to race from a dig cuz with the stick they will get the jump by the time your auto reacts to you going WOT.

Thanx, I will try the left foot brake technique. My friend's crazy idea is to put the car in neutral and at about 1200 RPM's put in drive. I may be wrong but shouldn't that damage your tranny. Has a 92' chevy cavalier that's about as fast as one-leged horse. One, more thing does turning the O/D off or on have any performance benefit or does it harm performance. In other words what does that do?
Tell your friend that he is a f-ing fool if he wants you to do a netural drop [sm=badidea.gif][sm=noooo.gif][sm=nothatway.gif]. That is probley the wors thin that you can do to a auto trans!!!! Turnning off your o/d will not net you any more or less performance. I will turn mine off if I am in traffic going 30-50mph just because it is not that good for your trans to keep shifting from 3-4 all the time as traffic speeds up and slows down, Also the power is there if you need it!!!
I figured that was a dumb idea, it just seems like unnecessary stress on a auto. It's not like it has a clutch or anything. There was no way I was going to try that with my car! I know a old timer who wants to race me, he has a 03' auto trans Mercedes AMG CL 500. It's says 200 mph on the dash but I doubt even Mercedes engineering can propel it there with only 330 HP. I can't wait to do my mods and go against him so he can shut his mouth!
If this is the Benz that he has I hope that you are going to add a S/C to your car along with some other mod's!!! Because if you don't he is going to own you!!! You have to watch out for some of these really expensive luxury (sp?) cars!!!

Great! He told me his car was 330 hp (slick bastard). This should be great considering he dosen't know how to use his car. This should be fun when I am modfied! Especially since his car must have at least 600 lbs more than mine. Twin turbo is the way I want to go but I may settle for a SC!
