Default Automatic Shifter

I just had a question about Automatic Shifters. I have a 2004 GT Auto, and i've heard good things about shifter kits, but i'm a little curious how they work and as far as installation, I mean after install, will it still have auto trans or are you basically converting it to manual? And also, would I need to change gears and if so what kind do you recommend? Its a daily driver and I drive the highway alot. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Right now its pretty much stock with the exception of a cold air intake, i'm in the military and deployed, but when I get back i'm getting a vortech s/c, w/ plugs and wires, and probably x pipes, I just wanted something a little quicker like the manual trans.

If you have an automatic do get a shift kit (www.transgo.com) well reccomended and as for gears as a daily driver I have 3.73's and I commute everyday. I have an auto and I love my shift kit.
I hope this helps and good luck. Where are u stationed at?

I'm in NC...Marine Corps...So you don't have to get a clutch right, all it is, is the shifter itself right.

The shift kit is installed in your transmission. They will drop the pan and your valve body and install some stiffer springs, drill out some holes a little bigger and that is about it. I will be getting my shift kit installed next week, can not wait!!!!!!

You do not need to add a clutch for your automatic, just get yourself a shift kit and if you are skilled enough you can do it yourself. The shift kit is bigger and stronger valves and springs for your aode. This will work great with gears.
Look at this website www.transgo.com about shift kits and for gears you can get them at ebay.
marine......still department of the navy.......just kidding man, I am stationed in San Diego. Anyway, good luck and stay alive.
